No… you can come along and join in at any point. We teach the fundamental steps of WCS to everyone every week regardless of their ability. However, when we open a new class in a new area we generally run a 6 to 8 week beginners course. Every week there will always be people there for the very first time and therefore, we gear these sessions to you. After the initial 8 weeks we intorduce an Improvers/Intermediate class later in the evening this lasts for aproximately 45 minutes. On the night you'll get to dance with lots of people during the fundamentals class. It's playful and lots of fun!
What should I wear?
You don't need any particular clothing to attend. You can wear anything that suits you! You can dress casual or smart, as long as you feel comfortable. As for shoes, wear something that will allow you to move freely on the dance floor. We would we recommend leather-soled shoes rather than, for example, trainers, as they tend to grip the floor. Ladies: heels/no heels… again, it's up to you.
Do I need to bring a partner?
Not at all! You don't need to bring your own partner to dance with. When the fundamentals class starts you'll be asked onto the dance floor. For the first part of the session men and ladies will be seperated while we teach you the five fundamentals. After a short while you'll be partnered up. Every few minutes we'll rotate you. This means you will have many dance partners during the class. Some may be beginners but some may be advanced dancers.
What happens on my first night?
When you arrive at 7:30 you'll be greeted by our friendly door staff. At the start of the night, the Teacher will take to the floor and begin the fundamentals class. The teacher will generally be in the middle of the room and will teach the five 'fundamentals'. After this the dance teacher will quickly partner you up and rotate you for the rest of the class. Don't forget that WCS is your chance to interpret the music (within the framework) so you can be as expressive, playfull or cheeky as you want! After 15 minutes (at 8:45 pm) we'll announce the improvers/intermediate class (which lasts for 45 minutes) and our WCS teacher will get everyone on to the dance floor.
The rest of the evening is yours to enjoy the very best WCS tracks played by our resident DJ Pete.
